I consider myself to be a visual storyteller that strives to explore. On my current path, I am focusing on building both my design aesthetics and my point of view as a theatre artist. With each new design I strive to create the most authentic and accurate connection to the heart of each story. The way that I achieve this is heavily influenced by my sculptural background - creating an overall emotional response to the piece, then delving deeply into the details and breaking down the DNA of each choice made.
As a student, I set out to challenge my skill set with each new project. I am currently investigating new rendering methods beyond photoshop such as VR models. In these, directors can walk around in the actual theatre set to get a better sense of size and emotional qualities. My hope is to create a unique way to communicate with directors and the design team. I enjoy learning, and seek new skills to use on future projects and better myself as a designer. My strongest attribute to bring to the team is my dedication to try something new. I want to investigate new possibilities and if I fail, then that is something that I gladly learn from and share with the team. Each challenge is faced with the same determination and enthusiasm as the one before. Although I have always strived to be a designer in theatre, because of my skills I have often found myself in construction positions. Because of my sculptural background I have always felt comfortable building things - and am very good at it. However, I was less confident in the process of devising complicated dramaturgical ideas. But in the past couple months as a student, I have found the confidence and joy of breaking down a script to discover complicated and layered design ideas to bring to the team. I find that this has allowed me to explore broader, more evocative, designs. I will voraciously continue my pursuit of knowledge and personal growth in my final year of grad school. As I prepare for working in the professional world, I have already begun to explore opportunities in the professional realm. I am enthralled by the endless possibilities my future holds and excited to see what art I will be able to create. |
